Useful Roofing Preparation & Installation Tips

  • When removing old shingles, you must inspect all decking for split or broken decking


  • Replace or renail decking as needed


  • Clean decking of loose debris


  • City code requires one air vent per 1,000 square feet of roofing


  • Install 15-lb or 30-lb felt paper


  • Install synthetic underlayment with 6 nails per shingle no more than 5 5/8 inches from the bottom of the shingle


  • Never use staples on fiberglass or asphalt shingles
